Burial League Fund – Frequently Asked Questions
We’ve grown and lots of people have never heard of the Burial League Fund. This fantastic effort to assist with the burial of members of Church of God by Faith was conceived over 50 years ago. The Fund thrives with a tremendous drop in membership, perhaps because people don’t know about it. Each year we get a lot of questions regarding the Fund; this is a great opportunity to answer some of them.
Q. How do I qualify for paid up status and what must I do if I think I am qualified? A. Any member of the Fund for 50 years and having reached the age of 70 years or older may be eligible. Speak with the Burial League Fund representative at your local church about the criteria for paid up certificates if you think you qualify.
Q. Can my family members join the Fund? A. Only a spouse 50 years or younger and minor children 18 years or younger are eligible to join.
Q. Does the Fund still have a dispensation period? A. Yes, December 1 through March 31 of each year. The current membership fee is $10.00. Members can join for $7.50 during the dispensation period.
Q. If I submit a claim for death benefits this week, will I receive a check by next week? A. No, death claims generally take at least two weeks to process.
Q. Is it possible to upgrade my $2,000 burial certificate to $3,000? A. In 1997, persons who currently had a $2,000 certificate were allowed to upgrade their certificates for a $3,000 death benefit. As of March 31, 1997, the window of opportunity was closed to upgrade.
Q. If I change my local church membership to another COGBF that does not have an active Burial League, where can I pay my assessments? A. Your assessments can be mailed directly to the National Office. Call and speak with the national representative for the Fund.
Q. How much do I send in with my application? A. The applicable joining fee and the first month’s assessment. Therefore, the amount would be $17.50 (non-dispensation period) or $15.00 (dispensation period).
Your questions may not have been answered here but you can get almost any answer about the Fund on the back of your Burial League Certificate.
COGBF Educational Scholarship Program
The Church of God by Faith (COGBF) Educational Scholarship Program has been established to promote the continuing college/university education of graduating high school students. The scholarship program encourages students to pursue their higher education by supporting students financially and spiritually.
he Educational Scholarship Committee has reviewed the many applications they received for the 2009/2010 school year and
the selection process was difficult. However, three deserving students met the qualifying criteria and are headed to college this year with some assistance from the Church of God by Faith Education Scholarship Program. We proudly announce their selections.
