The electrical fire on Sunday ripped through the Abu Sifin church in Imbaba,
a working class district west of the Nile River, part of Giza governorate in greater Cairo

Mourners in Egypt attended a memorial service Tuesday for victims of a Coptic church fire in Cairo that killed 41 people -- among them many
    children, including twins and triplets.

The electrical fire on Sunday ripped through the Abu Sifin church in Imbaba, a working
class district west of the Nile River, part of Giza governorate in greater Cairo.

At least 10 of those killed during Sunday mass, when families flock to the church and its daycare services, were minors aged under 16, according to a list from just one
    hospital circulated by local media.

Coptic Bishop Martyros led a "third day" service Tuesday
in central Cairo's Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary
to commemorate the resurrection of Christ and honour the souls of the dead.

"The entire country is ailing," the bishop told the bereaved,
two days after the blaze rocked Egypt's 10-million-strong Coptic community, the Middle East's largest Christian population.

Among those killed were six members of the same family, one mourner, Sandy George, told AFP.

"My aunt Magda and her daughters, Merna and Irina, and Irina's three kids"
    died of asphyxiation, George said.

Egyptian mourners carry the coffin of a child killed in the Cairo Coptic church fire at the
Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Giza Governorate on August 14, 2022

Irina's children who were killed were the five-year-old twins Barthinia and Mariam and their brother Ibram, aged four.

Also killed were five-year-old triplets Mehrael, Youssef and Filopateer Bassem Amir, according to the hospital list.

Hundreds attended another third-day service in a nearby church, for Father Abd al-Messih Bekheit
of the Abu Sifin church, who reportedly died
trying to save members of the congregation.

Dec 24 (Reuters) - Europe's main stocks index rose on Tuesday,
with mining and energy stocks leading gains amid light trading volumes
    ahead of the Christmas break.

The pan-European STOXX 600 was up 0.2%, with many markets either shut or working reduced hours for
    Christmas Eve.

Most European markets will be closed for the next two days.

With just a few more days to the New Year, investors are looking out for any developments related U.S.
President-elect Donald Trump's White House inauguration on Jan. 20.
Trump has threatened import tariffs against crucial economies including China and Mexico.

The incoming president's expected policies are considered inflationary and have
already been factored in the Federal Reserve's monetary policy outlook.

The European Central Bank, which has delivered back-to-back rate cuts this year, flagged prospective
trade tensions with the U.S. under Trump.

"Our relatively optimistic take on Germany rests on an assumption of limited new U.S. trade restrictions vis-à-vis Europ," Morgan Stanley analysts said in a weekly note.
"Spain is likely to continue its outperformance of the euro area. For one, it is less trade dependant than other euro area economies."

Despite hitting record highs this year, the STOXX 600 is up
just around 5% so far in 2024, with momentum stalling in the
face of Trump's proposed measures, lacklustre Chinese spending, geopolitical tensions and a
weak domestic economic picture, among other factors.

The auto sector, expected to be the worst-hit under Trump, is
set to be the top laggard of the year, while defence and banks are on track to be the
    biggest gainers.

On the day, basic resources index, which includes most of Europe's mining
firms, rose 0.6%. Energy, too, was up 0.4%, tracking higher oil prices.

Among individual movers, British homebuilder Vistry slumped 16.3% after
warning on its fiscal 2024 profit for the third time,
citing delays to expected year-end transactions and
    completions.

Elsewhere, France unveiled a new government that Prime Minister Francois Bayrou
will hope can oversee the passage of a 2025 budget and prevent a deepening of
crisis. The CAC 40 was last up 0.1%.

Euronext said it was experiencing an issue in calculating closing prices
for cash instruments and would manually update those prices for the assets that had been affected.

Russell Crowe has described a report he is looking to
sell out of NRL club South Sydney as 'bulls***'.

Reports emerged on Monday the Hollywood actor is in the market to sell his 25 per cent stake in the Rabbitohs, who he
bought with businessman Peter Holmes à Court for $3 million in 2006.

But in a statement provided to Australian Associated Press, Crowe advised journalists to make the most of the Australian weather rather than concern themselves with his business dealings.

'Just tell them all it's bulls***, and advise them to enjoy
    the summer sun,' Crowe said.

He later posted the following message on X: 'Re SSFC [South Sydney Football Club].
What would January in Australia be without desperate legacy media conspiracy theories?

'Enjoy the summer sun while it's there and ignore the trolls.
WB [coach Wayne Bennett] back onboard. A fresh energy about the place.
    An arrowhead on our intentions.'

Russell Crowe (pictured with Anthony Albanese) has emphatically denied a bombshell report that he is trying to sell his stake in the South Sydney Rabbitohs

The Gladiator star (pictured at a Souths game in 2023) currently owns
25 per cent of the club

The Rabbitohs declined to comment publicly when contacted.

South Sydney finished the 2006 season in last place after Crowe and Holmes à Court bought
the team earlier that year by narrowly winning a vote
that was put to the club's more than 3000 members at the time.

Crowe brought Hollywood glitz and glamour to the club almost straight away, famously having the players kitted out in clothing by Armani,
and getting fellow megastars like Tom Cruise and Chris Hemsworth along to games.

After winning the minor premiership in 1989, the club fell
on extremely hard times financially and competitively, leading to their exclusion from the NRL in 1999.

The Bunnies won reinstatement in 2002 after a lengthy court battle, but their struggles continued until the change of ownership.

From the 2007 season, the team got on a roll that culminated in them winning the 2015 grand final
to record a record 21st premiership victory.

Another grand final followed in 2021 as the Rabbitohs
lost to Penrith, and the side remained competitive until failing to make the final
eight in 2023, then sliding to a disappointing 16th on the ladder last year.

It was a horror season that saw coach Jason Demetriou
sacked, and the team's best player, Latrell Mitchell,
get punished by club bosses after his white powder scandal followed
a run of injury and on-field controversies to ruin the fullback's year.

Crowe (pictured at a Bunnies match in 2018) played a leading role in turning the
team from also-rans into premiers after taking over in 2006

But despite that, Souths remain in a good position financially
as the club recorded profits for the last seven years, including making $14million in 2024.

Crowe's takeover was far from a sure thing as he and Holmes à Court's bid only got up by 32
votes, with 3942 members casting ballots.

'This means we have a future, we have a future and we have cash
in the bank and we can begin to focus on the very thing that all of the factionalism and the in-fighting stops us focusing on which is playing the game of football and playing it competitively,' Crowe told the club's fans after the
    win.

The bombshell report is not the first time the star has been connected to offloading his shares in the team.

In 2012, Souths announced that he was going to sell his then 37.5
per cent stake before Crowe changed his mind.

'There's a personal equation here. He has a young family.
Obviously his commitments with work have been excessive over the last 18 months,' then Rabbitohs
chairman Nicholas Pappas said, referring to Crowe's separation from his then-wife Danielle Spencer.
